The Story
After my father discovered my love for art and photography, he surprised me with a visit to Best Buy on the most magical Christmas Eve l could have imagined. He wanted to nourish my passions by purchasing me a camera of my very own. He expected to spend no more than $300. It was a lot to spend on one kid for Christmas but he knew it would be worth it. When a bright red Nikon camera caught my attention, my dad knew l had found the one. He gasped at the $600 price tag. He took a deep breath and asked me just once "are you sure you have to have this one?" He couldn't say no to a smile like that. That day changed the course of my life forever. I signed up for anything photography related anytime I possibly could. l entered every competition l could and even placed in a few! l cleared my class schedules year after year to focus on my art. l was at every sporting event and awards ceremony. Always a fly on wall, behind the scenes, capturing every moment. I devoted myself to my editing skills, spending every waking moment either in front of the camera or in front of a computer screen. l even offered free photoshoots to everyone just for the experience. As my obsession grew, so did my talent, and it hasn't stopped growing since. That bright red Nikon turned my hobby into my career.
Over the last ten years I may have upgraded my equipment and my camera but the passion that I found with that bright red Nikon will stay with me forever.
Photography is not a job to me, its a passion for the beauty in the world around us. The beauty of life and death and everything in between. After all these years I've learned photography isn't about how to showcase my style or my brand. It isn't really about me at all. Photography allows me to share the essence and soul of my subject in all of its raw glory. Photography is about all the emotions I get the privilege of capturing and my camera is what allows me to embrace the world around me.
